Pumpkin carving was a fun (and completely independent this year!) homeschooling activity.

Modelling clay was our art lesson for today (Mom and Dad had fun too)

School at home is messy... haha

Extracurricular activities are back up and running, skating and hockey are two of them!

A few pictures I haven't shared yet! Early September we went camping with quite a few other homeschooling families. We had a blast!

A trip on this boat was a highlight for E & G

And a little Yoga sample. I hope to get some better shots of our yoga lessons at some point. <3

Round 2 Day 11

A sample of things we've been working on! Nature artwork by famous artists from our exploring nature with children curriculum.

N loves crabs so we're doing crab art and today he learned about the Yeti Crab!

E has been working on a novel study project for Island of the Blue Dolphins. It has lots of separate activities that she will be able to put together for one big visual presentation. I got this material from the teachers paying teachers website. Great stuff for fairly cheap!

We use our big wall calender and weather watching daily with the boys. E helps by learning about the weather forecast online and reporting back to us.

I've also included a couple of art projects. E was learning color gradients with pastels and N created a jack o lantern (but he didn't make it too scary so I wasn't frightened! ).

Science curriculum

Part of our science curriculum is the weekly lessons from Exploring Nature with Children bought online for $15 (I then had it printed at the ups store). This week was gathering and exploring seeds and it has lots of activities suggested to support the lesson and they work for many different ages. Poetry and art were included this time.
I would also recommend this great little microscope. For under $100 it was purchased on amazon and it works great. I like that it has lighting from below for clear/microscopic things and also above lighting for looking at solid things like seeds and the bugs we found on our seeds.

Day 1.. round 2

Despite working a night shift last night, day one of school was fun. I think these playdoh alphabet mats are so awesome for a little one who LOVES clay. I found these by googling alphabet playdoh mats (tricky I know.. haha) http://thisreadingmama.com/alphabet-playdough-mats/
I laminated with my prized homeschool possession that I bought on amazon for like $20. Keep your eyes peeled there. I see it on sale often. Sometimes they come with a bunch of laminating pouches too.

School year 2016/2017

This is day one of the new school year and we're kicking it off by allowing our 9 year old to stay home with us and our 5 year old will also be starting primary at home. So it's going to be a busy year but I'm so excited. My printer and laminator have already had a good work out.  ;)
